In 2005 we opened Off the Rails, in Settle in the Yorkshire Dales. We specialised in combining cycling, a great way to see the countryside, with the Settle Carlisle railway, one of the best ways of getting there. We made sure our visitors had top quality bikes, well researched routes, great accommodation and fully qualified guides and instructors who lived locally and knew the area well. Now we've brought our experience and expertise to York, the UK's most cycling friendly city, and offer the same high quality service, top class bikes and accommodation and easy to follow self-guided routes as we did in the Dales. We know visitors enjoy our tours, because they tell us and they come back for another visit. Many people tell us that by riding one of our tours they rediscovered the joy of cycling and went home to buy a bike of their own. We have won a North West Tourism Highly Commended Award, we were finalists in the Yorkshire White Rose Awards and also the Craven Business Awards. We were chosen as one of their Top 50 Spring (and Winter) Breaks by The Independent. This year we are proud to be in the Guardian's Green Travel List, a select group of travel operators chosen by an independent panel of travel experts. So we must be doing something right, and we're bringing it to York. Why York? For a start there's the iconic city centre, then there's the easy riding countryside all around packed full of interesting places to see and visit. Direct rail links from London, Newcastle and Edinburgh mean we can offer once again an all-in environmentally friendly package. I'm looking forward to starting work at our new location and introducing you to the pleasure of cycling. If you've ridden one of our Tours before I look forward to seeing you again. Colin Clifford |
